Concord eye Q 4363z Digital Camera

By John Virata

Concord Camera Corp. has released the Concord eye Q 4363z digital camera, a 4 megapixel model that features a 3X optical zoom and built in 16MB memory. The company, which is not too well known, is a manufacturer of film and digital cameras and according to its website, sold more than 34 million cameras in 2002. The company sells quite a few single use cameras. The company markets its cameras under various names, including some you may have never heard of, such as Clic, Goldline, and Apex, and some you may have heard of, such as Concord and Polaroid. We'll take a look at Concord's latest digital camera and what it offers to the hot 4 megapixel digital camera market.

The Concord eye Q 4363z, priced at around $249, is a 4 megapixel digital camera with a 3X optical zoom. It is built around an all glass 7.23-21.7mm f2.8-f4.6 6 element lens. It features 7 preset scenes for exposure control, 16MB of built in internal storage, an SD card slot, and the capability to capture 30fps video in the AVI file format. The camera itself is about the size of a deck of playing cards and is very lightweight, thanks to its all plastic housing.

The controls are located at the rear of the camera  with the exception of the power and shutter button, which are located on the top of the camera, Clicking on the menu button will bring up the menu on the LCD display. Features include Camera mode appears with Capture mode, of which you can capture to built in memory or to a card; Quality setting, which you can select from Fine, Normal, and Economy; Image size, which let's you select from 2272x1704, 2048x1536, 1600x1200,1280x960, 640x480; Scene selection choices include Party/Indoor, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Night landscape, Fireworks, and Night Portrait; White Balance settings include Automatic, Sunny, Fluorescent and Tungsten; Picture Effect includes choices of Black and white, Solarize, and Sepia; ISO speeds can also be selected, and include 100, 200, and 400 as well as automatic. Camera Ergonomics

Because of its relatively compact size and construction, the camera is very light and slippery. It is highly recommended that you attach the included wrist strap to keep from dropping the camera. The Menu is very easily accessed and very easy to make in- camera changes. There are a minimum of sub menus and sub sub menus that other camera manufacturers employ, making it difficult to make changes. But then again, this is a very basic no frills digital camera  that wouldn't require convoluted menu operations. the camera does include a mount for a tripod, as well as a finger rest on the front of the camera. The wide/tele button is located conveniently where your thumb would rest as you frame your shot.
